National Service for Seafarers 2026

On Sunday, 2 August, we were honoured to gather at beautiful Old St Paul’s in Wellington for our inaugural National Service for Seafarers — a special occasion to recognise, honour and pray for the men and women who keep our world connected through their work at sea.

We were deeply honoured by the presence of Her Excellency Dame Cindy Kiro, Governor-General of New Zealand, along with a number of distinguished guests and dignitaries, including the Rt Rev Andrew Hedge, the Ambassador of the Philippines, representatives of the Royal New Zealand Navy, the Merchant Navy, Maritime Unions, and others who share our commitment to supporting seafarers.

The Reverend Lance Lukin shared some thoughtful reflections, reminding us of the unique challenges faced by those who spend months away from their families and loved ones. We also had the opportunity to spend time in prayer, committing seafarers, their families, their voyages and their wellbeing into God’s loving care.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make this meaningful gathering possible. We are especially thankful to Her Excellency and all our honoured guests for joining us, and to everyone who continues to support the work of caring for seafarers who visit our ports.

“Remember those who go down to the sea in ships…” — Psalm 107:23
