Mission to Seafarers Oceania: 125th Anniversary
In 2024, The Mission to Seafarers marked 125 years of continuous service to seafarers in New Zealand and Oceania.
The celebrations were held during Sea Week; 8-14 July 2024.
There were a number of events, including:
Sea Sunday Service at 10am on Sunday 14 July 2024,
at The Wellington Cathedral of Saint Paul, corner Molesworth & Hill Streets, Wellington.
This was a very special celebration service hosted at the beautiful Wellington Cathedral of Saint Paul. The service was followed by a special 125th Anniversary cake and a rousing performance from the Wellington Sea Shanty singers. On display in the Cathedral were the fully restored historic Bible that was presented to The Mission on its commencement in 1898, and the proposed design for the Seafarers’ Memorial, our 125th Anniversary project. The proposed site was below the Mission to Seafarers’ window on Molesworth Street.
